One of Nepal's most promising
rock bands to hit the scenes in recent times, The Shadows aren't as hidden
and enigmatic as their name would suggest. Rather, the band is composed of
five member with Swapnil Sharma (vocals), Amit Pradhan (bass), Prakash
Rasaily (lead guitar), Prashant VK (rhythm guitar) and Bikash Manandhar
(drums). All of them are straightforward artists and simply share a
passion for music as their songs indicate.
This is a band which would
dedicate itself to composing songs designed to melt hearts rather than
follow in the footsteps to other singers and groups. The group also
focuses its energy on lyrics which are paradoxical but at the same time
strike a chord in the hearts of their listeners.
For their serious efforts in
music, they even got nominated for the Best Song in Foreign Language
category at the 7th and 9th Hits FM Music Awards, and also for the Best Rock
Band and Best Rock Composition categories at the latter edition.
Presently. The Shadows are awaiting the release of their third album whose
name is yet to be decided.
>>> How did you all
come up with the name "The Shadows"?
-- We just came up
with it and decided on it. The name is just for identification.
>>> Could you
elaborate a little more on your band name and what it stands for you all?
-- The Shadows is
what each of us is. It's through this we're identified. It's our passion and
our
medium of expression.
>>> Who are your
inspirations?
-- We're inspired
by everybody, especially the senior artistes from both national and
international
circuits.
>>> So, did each of
you dream of being in a rock band as a child?
-- As a child, we
had the usual child's thoughts and ambitions. Music was always our hobby but
we never
thought that we would be professionals.
>>> How do
you see the Nepali Music scenario?
-- It's coming up.
It's become creative in terms of sound and concepts. There's a sense of
professionalism
that has entered the people who are involved in the industry.
>>> How
would you describe your music?
--
Our music deals with
various issues. Through our songs we talk about things like humanism
and also address social issues. Our lyrics basically focus on universal
themes.
>>> Where
do you guys see yourselves in future?
-- We hope to be on
top. We want to be the best rock band in Nepal.
>>> Future
Plans?
-- We're going to
come out with our third album soon which we feel is better than the previous
ones. We also
want to gain more fans so that we'll get more courage to develop ourselves.
>>> Why
don't you guys come up with love songs?
-- Everyone is
doing love songs. People should know that there are other things as well.
Besides,
we're inspired by many artistes who don't do love songs, and there are so
many
thing other
than just boy-and-girl love stories that one can sing about.
>>> Any
memorable events during concerts?
-- Our most
memorable incident was when Riju Dai from Looza band came to us after our
concert and
said he was very impressed with our music.
>>> How do
you feel when your fans approach you?
-- It does feel
good. It's nice to be famous.
>>> How
was the journey from being just another band to being The Shadows? Any
hardships?
--
We really had to struggle
to be where we are now. No one was ready to take us initially. But
later, Sachin Singh of SAV Recording signed us after listening to our music.
>>> Since
most of you are still studying, how do you balance studies and music?
-- Studies and
music go side by side. We don't compromise on music.
>>> Any
message for your fans?
-- Keep listening
to us properly.
